Koh Adang: Paradise Island with Viewpoint to Koh Lipe

Koh Adang is a real paradise island located in the middle of the Tarutao Marine National Park, just a short distance from the popular holiday island Koh Lipe. It is about 6 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide, which makes it the second largest island in the region. Here you can experience an unspoiled paradise off the beaten tourist track. As part of this nature reserve, it is still very unspoiled. The dense jungle, secluded and hidden beaches, waterfalls and high mountains characterize the landscape of the island. Hot to get to Koh Adang

Getting from Koh Lipe to Koh Adang is usually done by Longtail Boat. It currently costs 200 baht per person to get to and from the island. Taxi boats can be found at the upper end of the Sunrise Beach and at Pattaya Beach. Transfer tickets can be booked on the spot. The boat trip takes ten minutes, and is really marvelous. Already from afar you can admire the incredibly beautiful island scenery and the crystal clear turquoise blue sea. Since Koh Lipe is in comparison to Koh Adang relatively flat, you’ll be amazed at how hilly the island is. The highest mountain of Koh Adang has a height of 690 meters.

Tip: There is no ATM on Koh Adang, so you should take enough cash for the trip. Also the small island shops are really limited, and we recommend bringing some snacks with you.

The island can only be visited during the dry season. Trips to Ko Adang take place from 15 November to 15 May and will then be suspended during the rainy season for safety reasons. Also, at this time, the only resort on the island closes.

Hike to Koh Lipe Viewpoint

The viewpoint on Koh Adang is one of the island’s most popular attractions. From here you have the most beautiful view of Koh Lipe. Actually, you can expect 3 different viewpoints on the hike up to the Chado Cliff, which are all very spectacular. Viewpoint 1 can be reached in 15 minutes, and the last Viewpoint Nr. 3 can be reached in 45 minutes to an hour.

In general, the trail through the jungle is really sweaty, but for experienced hikers, not necessarily difficult. Make sure you wear closed shoes, sunscreen, mosquito spray, and take plenty of water with you. The trail to Koh Adang Viewpoint is well signed, and you can hardly get lost. With a little luck, you will also be accompanied by the friendly island dog, who enjoyed the hike at least as much as we did.

At the top of the mountain, your efforts will definitely be rewarded. The view on Koh Lipe is indescribably beautiful. For many, the hike at Koh Adang was one of the highlights of an island hopping tour through South Thailand.

Beaches on Koh Adang

Right at the headquarters of the National Park, where the camping site is located, there is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, the Laem Son Beach. Since Koh Adang is overgrown with dense jungle, many of the beaches around the island are difficult to reach. If you would like to explore the hidden beaches of Koh Adang, you should hire longtail-boat and go around the island. You will discover many beautiful bays, and all of them you will have just for yourself. In the north of the island there is the Black Sand Beach, the only black beach on the island.

Snorkeling on Koh Adang

Koh Lipe, as well as the entire National Park, offers a variety of great snorkeling spots. Therefore, also on Koh Adang you will find some good opportunities for snorkeling. Intact reefs where you can admire the colorful underwater world of this dream island. On a trip to Koh Adang, you will find a nice sport just right at the ranger station, in the area around the Laem Son Beach. Here you can discover a real variety of corals and an incredible number of colorful fish, starfish and even moray eels.

Waterfalls

There are also waterfalls to discover on Koh Adang. For example, the Kinaree Waterfall or the Pirates Waterfall. Unfortunately, these waterfalls can only be reached by a rather exhausting hike through the jungle. Also, the waterfalls trails are very badly marked. These waterfalls are not very spectacular, and so the visit is not necessarily a must-do.

 

Where to stay at Koh Adang

As mentioned above, the islet is a real natural paradise. If you are looking for accommodation and hotels, you only find 2 different possibilities for where to stay. The cheapest way to stay overnight is the camping on Koh Andang, right next to the National Park Administration. In addition, the park has a few cheap bungalows with fan from 1.500, – Baht available, but that must be booked directly at the National Park Administration.
