Žusterna Beach
The Žusterna Beach is a real gem and definitely the most beautiful beach in Koper. This enchanting, newly built coastal strip is part of the Žusterna City Coastal Park, a park for cycling, jogging, walking, swimming and relaxing. This green oasis is located on a part of the promenade leading from Koper to Izola. There are several charming pebble coves with the most gorgeous turquoise sea and beautiful views of Koper. Unique are the green lawns with small trees, which are perfect for sunbathing and relaxing. The whole atmosphere along this stretch of coast is very relaxed, and so Zusterna Beach is a guarantee for pleasant days by the sea.
Zusterna Beach can be reached by a short 10-minute walk from Koper. If you arrive by car, there are plenty of parking spaces right behind the coastal park. However, these can fill up quickly, especially on weekends, so it’s worth arriving early.

Koper City Beach (Mokra mačka)
The Koper City Beach, also known as Mokra mačka or Mestna Plaza, is undoubtedly one of the most popular beaches in the city center. It is located on the promenade, just a few steps away from the historical Old Town and the large port. The beautiful and very clean pebble bay is popular with both locals and tourists who want to spend a few hours relaxing by the sea. It even flies the Blue Flag, indicating best water quality and facilities. In addition, the whole area is very inviting and there is always an enjoyable holiday atmosphere. There are shady places for hot summer days, a green lawn for sunbathing, a playground, umbrellas and sunbeds for rent and free sanitary facilities. We also recommend the cozy café, from whose terrace you can enjoy a magnificent view of the beach.
Despite the fact that this city beach is located right next to the large port, the sea is crystal clear and shimmers in the most beautiful colors. The pebble beach is gently sloping, making it ideal for families with children. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer to ensure safety.
Tip: Right in the center of Koper you can find many good accommodations. One of the best in town is the beautiful Hotel Grand Koper, not far from the beach.
Koper Dog Beach
The Koper Dog Beach, called Pasja plaža Žusterna, is a real highlight for all four-legged friends and their owners. This pebble bay is part of the scenic coastal park Žusterna and can be reached by a short walk from the city center. Dogs and pets are allowed in a designated area, subject to certain rules. The animals must be kept on a leash, but they are allowed to run and play on the beach and swim in the sea. In addition, this section of the beach is perfectly clean, with a green lawn for sunbathing and some small trees for natural shade. Vacationers love the relaxed atmosphere that is enjoyed during a beach vacation with a dog.
There is also another, smaller, fenced-in dog beach in Koper. It is a bit more central, right at the end of the Semedala promenade, before you enter the coastal park. Four-legged friends can roam freely and play in the sea.
Kupalište Žusterna Beach
The wonderful coastal Kupalište Žusterna is located about 15 minutes walk from the center and is a popular choice for a few hours of swimming in Koper. This is a very well maintained concrete beach with ladders and stairs leading down to the crystal clear waters of the sea. There are some trees at the back of the beach for cool shade on hot days, and there are sunbeds and umbrellas for hire. A small beach bar provides refreshments and in summer there is a colorful water bouncy castle for children. If you like, you can visit the open-air swimming pool “Olimpijski Bazen” right on the beach, but it is not free and closes at 16:00.
The beach Kupaliste Zusterna can be reached via the beautiful promenade that leads from the center of Koper along the coast to the beaches. Alternatively, you can rent a cheap e-scooter or take a bike. For those arriving by car, there is a paid parking lot just behind the beach.
Plaza Ankaran Beach
The Plaza Ankaran beach is one of the most popular beaches in the area of Koper. It is located in the Ankaran resort of the same name, just below the Hotel & Resort Adria Ankaran, where there is also a large campsite. Surrounded by pine forests and with many green sunbathing areas, the whole ambience of the bay is very natural and enchanting with a Mediterranean flair. The quality of the sea in this region of Koper is also fabulous, so you can explore an interesting underwater world while snorkeling. In general, the beach consists of many concrete areas, while the seabed is slightly pebbly and natural. There are also good restaurants, playgrounds for children, water sports and a swimming pool for resort guests.
Non-resort guests also have free access to this beach. If you come by car, you can park at the campsite for a small fee. However, this is limited, so making sure to arrive early is recommended.
