Moscenicka Draga is situated only 15 kilometers from Opatija. A day trip to this coastal town with its many historic villas and buildings from the imperial era should not be missed.

Parking in Moscenicka Draga is subject to a charge. Parking is available in the town’s large parking lot, which starts at the entrance of the town and stretches all the way to the center.

Worth visiting in the surroundings of Moscenicka Draga is the 160 km² large Ucka Nature Park, where you can make great hikes and mountain bike tours.

General Information about Moscenicka Draga

The history of Mošćenička Draga as a seaside destination goes back to the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, when the Opatija Riviera was first opened up for tourism. Even today, you can enjoy an exceptionally beautiful ambience with magnificent old villas and nostalgic buildings from the late 19th century. Picturesque is also the promenade, the so-called Lungomare, where cozy restaurants, lovely cafés, and not to forget the beautiful beach Sipar form the tourist center of Moscenicka Draga. Just behind the coast rises the mighty Učka mountain range, whose beautiful natural landscape is ideal for outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking and paragliding. On the slopes of the hinterland you can explore picturesque mountain villages, such as the medieval old town of Mošćenice, which is connected to Moscenicka Draga on the coast via 753 stone steps.

The Old Town Moscenice

Moscenice is a medieval town situated on a hill 173 meters above Mošćenička Draga. Documents from 1436 indicate that the popular holiday resort Mošćenička Draga was once the fishing port of this historic town. A stroll through the charming old town reveals a multitude of cultural monuments. Among the most important sights are the old town gate with the stone wall, the town loggia, the historic olive mill and the 3 beautiful churches of Mošćenice.

On the opposite side of the church square of Crkva sv. Andrije church there is a magnificent viewpoint from which you can enjoy a magnificent view over the coast of Moscenicka Draga.

Tip: Moscenice on the mountain is connected with Moscenicka Draga at the sea from the beach of Sv. Ivan by a stone staircase of 753 steps and can thus also be reached by a short walk.

 

Best Beaches in Moscenicka Draga

Moscenicka Draga is famous for its fabulous natural beaches, which are popular with tourists and locals alike. These are light pebble beaches, which score with top sea quality, fantastic watercolors and great beach facilities. Because of the easy access to the water, the main beach Sipar is especially suitable for children, but also for people of older generations. Beach Sipar

The picturesque beach Sipar is the main beach of Mošćenička Draga and many connoisseurs even call it one of the most beautiful beaches along the Kvarner Bay. It is a fine, very clean pebble beach, which also attracts visitors with the most beautiful sea colors. Bathing in the turquoise sea, one enjoys an unbelievably beautiful ambience with the picturesque port city and the red house roofs as a backdrop.

The section south of Sipar beach, near the cozy Coco Beach Bar, is also uniquely beautiful. In this area, pine trees provide natural shade and the stones in the sea are perfect for snorkelers.

Beach Sv. Ivan

Another beautiful beach in Moscenicka Draga is the Beach Sv. Ivan. This beach is located a little south of the center and is connected to the village by a promenade. Here too, you can enjoy a wonderful pebble beach. The good thing is that usually it is a bit quieter than the busy main beach. A bit further along, at the southern end of the coast, you will find the nudist beach, which is highly appreciated by all who love to bathe in their birthday suit.

Beach Uboka

The picturesque Uboka bay is a real insider tip in the area. It is situated on the main road, 4 kilometers south of Moscenicka Draga, and can be reached from the parking lot only by a few steps downhill. Once you reach the bottom, you will experience a beautiful and quiet beach scenery with green pine trees and crystal-clear water.

Brsec Beach

The Klancac Beach in Brsec is uniquely beautiful and definitely worth a detour. This picturesque bay is situated about 10 kilometers from Moscenicka Draga and inspires with a breathtakingly beautiful pebble beach embedded in a dreamlike rocky coast. The turquoise sea colors and the crystal-clear sea also amaze the guests here.

Best Excursions in the Surroundings

During a vacation in Mošćenička Draga you can go on numerous wonderful excursions. The following attractions and interesting places in the surrounding area are perfect for a visit:

A must-see in the vicinity is the historic coastal town Opatija. This noble town is only 15 kilometers away and is one of the highlights of the Kvarner Bay.

Just behind Mošćenička Draga towers mountain Učka, a nature park with countless hiking trails. A highlight is the view from the summit of Vojak and the rock formations of Vela Draga.

The city of Rijeka is well worth a visit, with its many attractions. The old town, the harbor with its pier and Trsat Castle are particularly interesting on a day trip.
