The beach
The beach of Oualidia is really amazingly beautiful, one of the best beaches in Morocco. Soft fine sand and a pleasant fresh sea invites for bathing and linger. Protected by the lagoon, the sea is ideal for swimming, but also kayaking and surfing are popular activities there. The whole beach atmosphere is wildly romantic and very authentic. While lying on the beach, you can watch locals picnicking and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.
If you are hungry, just get some delicious grilled fish, which comes fresh from the sea and is grilled by local fishermen right on the beach. In general, Oualidia is a paradise for those who love eating fish and seafood. All kinds of sea fish, lobsters, crabs and oysters can be found on menus at the local restaurants.
Tip: In Oualidia you should definitely try oysters. Since the 50’s the fishing village has been famous for its oyster farming.
All year around, the climate on the Moroccan coast is very pleasant. Due to the Atlantic breeze, not too hot in summer, but in Winter, not too cold due to the sheltered location. Visiting Oualidia is especially beautiful in preseason from April to June. At that time, the beach was one of the absolute must-see places on the coast of Morocco. In the summer holidays, the beach will get very crowded. If you like, you can take one of these beautiful boats and visit more quiet beaches in the area. Around the seaside resort of Oualidia you will find several beautiful sandy beaches.
Tip: In our experience, on most beaches in Morocco, wearing bikinis is not a problem. Topless or ultra-tiny bikinis are a no-go.
The lagoon
The lagoon is one of the main attractions of Oualidia. This pearl has been under conservation since 1978, and is one of the ultimate spots in Morocco for bird watching. The lagoon is a wintering area for ducks, storks and other bird species. Especially in spring and autumn, birders and nature lovers will enjoy visiting the lagoon. With a little luck you will even see pink flamingos.
Taking a boat trip through the lagoon to admire the huge sandbank and thousands of birds is one of the best things you can do in Oualidia. A nature experience that not only delights birdwatchers. The offshore rocks act as breakwaters and so the sea in the lagoon is smooth.
