General Information about Stara Baska

Stara Baska is a tiny village of 100 inhabitants in the south of the island of Krk. Founded in the 14th century as a shepherd settlement, today the resort attracts mainly individualists who are looking for that very special travel experience. Not only those who seek peace and quiet, but also active vacationers will find their personal paradise here. Around Stara Baska there are beautiful hiking trails, you can go on mountain bike tours, paddle down the coast in a kayak or explore the breathtaking underwater world while diving or snorkeling.

Beautiful and a real highlight are the beaches of Stara Baska. Over a length of more than 3 kilometers, you will find countless breathtakingly beautiful dream bays, which conjure up a spectacular backdrop with turquoise sea colors and the karstic coastline. Some of the bays are secluded and accessible only by boat or on foot along small paths, and therefore offer undisturbed bathing pleasure in magnificent nature.

The tourist center of Stara Baska is the small village center at the fishing port. Here you will find good restaurants as well as places to stay, which are mainly family-run vacation apartments. Camping fans will get their money’s worth in Stara Baska visiting the Adriatic campsite.

The Beaches of Stara Baska

The beaches in Stara Baska are unique on the island of Krk, and many are even among the most beautiful in Croatia. Along the rugged coastline there are always fabulous natural coves. Most are fine pebble or stone beaches, but there are also beautiful sandy beaches to discover!

Oprna Bay Beach

One of the most famous beaches of Stara Baska is definitely Oprna Bay. Here you can experience a dream bay like those in travel magazines. The sea is crystal clear, turquoise blue and conjures up an almost surreal ambience with the karstic coastal landscape. Thanks to the natural environment, you can also snorkel and explore an interesting underwater world. This bay can be reached either by boat or by a 5-minute hike from the main road down to the coast. A reason why this bay is probably never overcrowded and, even in summer, always inspires everyone with quiet flair!

The beautiful Plaza Stara Baska is the main beach of the small resort. It is located right next to the center and even in the high season, compared to other beaches on the island of Krk, it is relatively quiet. Here you will enjoy a fine pebble bay, where especially the unique idyll and the crystal clear sea score. There are several restaurants near the beach, which spoil their guests with Croatian delicacies while enjoying the fabulous view. Just behind the beach is a vacation settlement, where you can find lovely accommodations for a beach vacation in Stara Baska.

Beach Surbova

A real insider tip among the most beautiful beaches of Stara Baska is Surbova Bay. This quiet natural cove is somewhat hidden in the east of the resort, and the last kilometer can be reached only by hiking. This is probably one reason why this beach has remained an insider tip. Here you can bathe in absolute idyll, surrounded by the typical Stara Baska sheep pastures and stone walls. The sea is wonderfully clear, is relatively shallow and invites going snorkeling!

Tip: If you hike a bit further along the path, you will discover two smaller bathing bays!

Beach Surbova

Zala Beach

Zala Beach is the ultimate dream beach of Stara Baska. The best way to reach it is by car from the center via the well paved gravel road. Once you arrive, you will experience a magnificent natural beach, which delights with turquoise blue sea and the beautiful karstic rock formations. The water is slightly cooler than elsewhere thanks to the fresh water spring, which provides refreshment, especially on hot summer days. In the high season, a small beach bar also opens, where you can get cool drinks and small snacks.

Skrila Beach

Plaza Skrila is a highlight of Stara Baska. It is located in Skrila campsite and is actually visited almost exclusively by campers. Here you can experience a fabulous mix of pebble and sandy beach, where turquoise sea colors provide almost kitschy Caribbean flair. Moreover, the straw umbrellas are gorgeous and give this bay that certain something. There is also a small water sports center right on the beach that offers kayaks and canoes for rent.

Tip: The campsite Skrila Sunny Camping by Valamar inspires with a wonderful beach location! Also popular are the mobile homes, where you can choose between Comfort and Superior.
