Hvar’s nightlife is also legendary, as there is always something going on at night. The main attractions of Hvar are the Spanish Fortress, the Cathedral of St. Stephen, the Town Loggia with its bell tower and the Arsenal from the 13th century. Spanish Fortress
The Spanish Fortress, also known as the Fortica Španjola, is the highlight of the island of Hvar. The location at the top of the old town, about 90 meters above sea level, is also wonderful. Dubovica Beach
The Dubovica Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on Hvar Island and one of the must-see places. Vrboska

Tip: The best way to reach the Pakleni Islands is by taxi boat. They are available mainly in the town of Hvar and run several times a day to and from the islands.
Stari Grad Hvar
The enchanting Stari Grad Hvar is an extremely charming, historic coastal town on the island of Hvar. The old town and plain of Stari Grad were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008. Its history dates back to 384 BC, making Stari Grad one of the oldest cities in Croatia. The old Dalmatian stone houses, narrow streets and ancient churches are simply unique and give Stari Grad a fairytale setting. Worth seeing are also St. Stephen’s church, Tvrdalj castle and Trg Skor square. The picturesque promenade overlooking the sea is the best place to enjoy a coffee.

Jelsa
Visiting the romantic town of Jelsa is one of the ultimate best things to do on Hvar. In addition to the picturesque promenade and the beautiful marina, Jelsa has several magnificent beaches and coves. Moreover, the charming old town, where you can visit some pretty squares, is simply enchanting. Among the most beautiful attractions are the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary from the 13th century and the romantic Pjaca, the Square of Croatian Rebirth. Thanks to its central location, Jelsa on Hvar is the ideal starting point for many excursions and discovering the island’s great sights.

Pokonji Dol Beach

Tvrdalj Castle (Stari Grad Hvar)
The small Tvrdalj Castle, located in the village of Stari Grad, is one of the most beautiful sights on the island of Hvar. This Renaissance castle was built in the 15th century by the Croatian poet Petar Hektorović as a residence and retreat and is considered one of the most important historical attractions on the island. It took the poet almost 50 years to build it, which is reflected in the many details and special features of the castle. However, the heart of the estate is the extremely romantic emerald-colored fishpond and the beautiful Mediterranean garden. The castle can currently be visited for a fee.
Sveta Nedilja
A true gem on Hvar Island is the small village of Sveta Nedilja. It is located on the south side of the island and attracts visitors with its numerous pretty bays and pebble beaches along the coast. A must-see is Skala beach, one of the most picturesque beaches on the island of Hvar. The water there is crystal clear and is ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The Veli Kamik viewpoint is also very scenic and an insider’s tip, offering a great view of the steep cliffs of the Hvar coastline. East of Sveta Nedilja there is also a climbing spot, the Cliffbase, where the climbing scene meets.

Franciscan Monastery (Hvar Town)
The Franciscan Monastery in Hvar Town is one of the most interesting attractions on the island. It is located directly on Hvar’s waterfront and can be reached by a short walk from the Old Town. The small beach directly in front of the church is also beautiful and conjures up a romantic ambience. The monastery was built in the 15th century and served as a refuge for sailors. If you like, you can visit the inside of the monastery. There is a museum with valuable paintings and relics. One of the most famous attractions is the magnificent painting of the Last Supper.
Stari Grad Plain & White Cross
An absolutely enchanting place to visit on Hvar is the White Cross and the small chapel on Glavica hill. It is located near the old town of Stari Grad and can be reached by a short walk from there. From the top, there is a breathtaking view of the famous Stari Grad plain, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2008. It is of great archaeological importance, as the fields were cultivated by the Greeks as early as the 4th century, and are therefore one of the most famous attractions on the island of Hvar.
Milna
The romantic resort of Milna is located only 4 kilometers from the town of Hvar, and despite its proximity to the capital, it is still a place far from the hustle and bustle. In general, the atmosphere there is very quiet and relaxed, the perfect place for a vacation on Hvar. The old settlement of Malo Grablje is located above the town and can be reached by a short walk. Milna also has 4 charming pebble beaches that are ideal for swimming and relaxation. Blue Cave Biševo
A visit to the Blue Cave Biševo, located near the island of Vis, is one of the most famous things to do in Hvar. Also known as Modra špilja, this natural jewel is a real tourist magnet and a popular destination for boat tours. The entrance to the cave is a sea tunnel about 1.5 meters high, which can be entered only by small canoes or rowing boats. Inside, the cave extends about 17 meters into the rock and reaches a height of up to 6 meters. The special thing about visiting this cave is its bright blue color, which can be admired especially on sunny days.
Sucuraj Lighthouse
The magnificent Sucuraj lighthouse is a real gem on the island of Hvar and a popular photo motif. Located in the quiet eastern part of Hvar, at the tip of the island, the view of the lighthouse is usually reserved for tourists arriving by ferry from Drvenik. This picturesque landmark was built in 1889 and today, thanks to a beautiful restoration, serves as an accommodation for tourists.
